Highland Huskies begin season with 2-1 record

Tthe Highland Huskies picked up a pair of wins against Lone Tree and Louisa-Muscatine last week to move to a 2-1 record.

 

June 16

Highland 7, Lone Tree 4

It was a close game in the early going as Highland hosted local rival Lone Tree on June 16.

With the score knotted at three, the Huskies put four runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning, ultimately winning 7-4.

Senior Cael Yeggy struck out nine while giving up three earned runs and walking four.

Senior Bill Laughlin went 2-for-3 at the plate with a homerun and a single.

Sophomore Luke Miller had a pair of singles, an RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore Connor Grinstead had a pair of stolen bases, an RBI and a run scored.

 

June 18

Highland 17

Louisa-Muscatine 2

The Huskies went on the road and scored early and often to roll past Louisa-Muscatine on June 18.

Highland put up three runs in each of the first two innings, two runs in the fourth before they opened the flood gates with nine runs in the fifth.

Louisa-Muscatine scored their only two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Senior Bill Laughlin struck out five, walked one and gave up two unearned runs for the Huskies.

At the plate, Laughlin was 3-for-3, with two singles and a double, 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Sophomore Luke Miller made it on base in each of his four at-bats with a single, a walk and twice being hit by pitches. He scored each time he reached base.
