The Highland school board approved a $42,000 contract Monday evening to remove asbestos found in the building during renovations.
The discovery of asbestos ground work on the heating, air conditioning and ventilation brought the replacement project to a halt.
Asbestos was discovered lining pipes and pipe joints throughout the building. Asbestos was found in floor tiles in the locker room.
The district received two bids; the other bid was for $48,625.
“I would suggest the low bid,” Superintendent Ken Crawford said before the board approved his recommendation during the seven-minute meeting.
