The Mid-Prairie girls basketball team started off their season with a tough 48-45 loss to Durant.
Mid-Prairie held a six-point lead with around four minutes of the fourth quarter remaining, but a late Durant charge gave them the lead and the win. Down 48-45, the Golden Hawks had one last possession to try and tie the game. As they inbounded the ball, a pair of players collided near the half-court line and eventually an over-and-back call was enforced on Mid-Prairie, ending their chances.
Myah Lugar was the team scoring leader, scoring 11 points on 4-9 shooting from the field. Maddie Nonnenmann was next with nine points on 2-9 shooting, she also grabbed nine rebounds.
Phelan Hostetler gave Mid-Prairie good minutes off the bench in her first game back for the Golden Hawks. She grabbed nine rebounds, had four assists and five blocks while also dropping eight points.
In her first career start, Amara Jones had nine points and was 4-4 from the free-throw line. She had a pair of assists.
The Golden Hawks hosted West Liberty on Tuesday. They face off against Tipton on Friday night at Mid-Prairie High School.
