Cindy Michel does not even remember voting in the election where she was picked to join the Highland school board.
The date, Sept. 11, 2001.
The voting was overshadowed by terrorist attacks on the United States.
Eighteen years later, Michel stepped down from the board at a meeting Nov 19.
“It’s been a pleasure,” she said. “The good does outweigh the bad.”
High school principal Angela Hazelett thanked Michel.
“You have always been a cheerleader for the district,” she said.
The board recognized Michel’s service with a plaque presented before Michel made the motion to adjourn the meeting.
Outgoing board member Lois Schneider, who has been on the board for six years, did not attend.
In a second meeting on the same night, the new board members were sworn in along with incumbents who were re-elected earlier this month.
Board secretary Sue Rich administered the oath of office to newcomers Kathy Butler and Samantha Holden. Incumbents Nate Robinson and Mike Golden were also sworn into their new term.
Golden took his oath of office via a web video connection because he was in Chicago on a business trip.
The board re-elected Nate Robinson as president and Megan Allen as vice president of the board.
