As the winds continued to howl following Monday’s severe storm outbreak, Mid-Prairie’s football players took to their practice field for the first workout of the preseason.
Weather or not, football season had arrived.
The Golden Hawks went through a number of position drills as they began to prepare for their season opener on August 28 in Wellman.
They weren’t alone.
Highland’s varsity and JV teams also began practice Monday afternoon.
Lone Tree began its conditioning in football camp last week.
The season begins for all three high schools on Friday, August 28.
The Golden Hawks will play host to Sigourney-Keota on opening night. Highland hosts Wilton to open its season and Lone Tree is at English Valleys.
All will be headed for postseason play this fall, per the season revisions established by the Iowa High School Athletic Association in July.
Mid-Prairie is coming off a 6-3 season in which the Golden Hawks averaged 67 points over their last three games.
