Recently, three members of the Lone Tree FFA chapter and FFA Advisor Bridget Mahoney went to Cedar Rapids to participate in Kirkwood Community College and Linn-Mar FFA livestock judging contest.
Participants were Hunter Hain, Kelly Marshek and Avery Shalla.
These FFA members, along with hundreds of other contestants, were asked to judge and evaluate four different species, which included goats, beef, sheep and swine, on visual appearance as well as carcass merit.
The team placed in the top half overall out of all the teams.
This team also placed first overall in the beef category.
Additionally, Kelly Marshek placed 13th overall individually in the beef category out of more than 200 contestants.
