Nancy Lenz and Elaina Amundson have been friends for thirty years. When Lenz’s husband passed away last year and she needed to downsize from her four-bedroom, three-car-garage house, the friends came up with an idea of how to get rid of all the antiques she had collected over the years—open a shop.
Fabulous Finds, a new consignment shop in Lone Tree, will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, Nov. 28. The shop, located at 104 W. Jayne Street in the building of the old barbershop, is currently open Thursday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers a variety of home goods, from kitchenware to handmade jewelry to antiques.
“Something we want to do is make sure we have something for everyone,” Lenz said. “We want to get some tools in here for the men. We’ve got variety. We’ve got a little section of dollar items, so kids can come in pick something out for Mom or Dad for Christmas or a birthday.”
Opening a new business during such a turbulent year has been difficult, but the pair of friends hope to provide a safe place for Lone Tree residents to shop even amid the pandemic.
“We’re trying to keep our prices low,” Lenz said. “We do all the COVID precautions. Masks, cleaning, hand sanitizer, washing our hands, social distancing – we do all that in here. We want to make this a place so people who have been stuck in their house can get out of the house for a while and have somewhere nearby to shop.”
The grand opening celebration, which comes about a month after the shop’s initial soft opening, will feature a good deal: $5 off every $25 spent.
“We’re hoping to let people know we’re here,” Amundson said. “We have such cool things in the store and new things coming in all the time, too. We’ve got old things, new things, handmade things from people right in town.”
Fabulous Finds currently has about 15 consignors, including five consignors who signed up before the shop even opened. Lenz and Amundson hope it’s a sign of the community jumping on board with the new business.
When asked how it felt to be part of the Lone Tree small business community, Amundson laughed and asked, “What small business community?”
“There is no business in Lone Tree,” she said. “The businesses are dying. We want to see Lone Tree support their local businesses. This town sometimes doesn’t do great at that, but we want to try. We want to give Lone Tree something of their own that they can get behind.”
