With a new year comes new hope for Brown Deer Place, as Operation Warp Speed has arrived in the form of a COVID-19 vaccine for many of our residents and staff. The vaccine, given in two injections a month apart, will be administered by trained pharmacists from Community Pharmacy, which is handling vaccines for hundreds of long-term care residents and staff in the area. The vaccine has been exhaustively tested and approved by the FDA and CDC and is said to be at least 95% effective in preventing illness due to COVID-19.
Allison Law, COO of Jaybird Senior Living, which manages Brown Deer Place, received her vaccine on Jan. 5 at Brown Deer Place.
“We ask all of our residents and staff to help us keep everyone in our buildings safe and healthy,” said Law. “To that end, we strongly urge everyone to be vaccinated.”
“Our residents and team members were very excited to be among the first in line to receive the vaccination,” said Nick Merlino, Executive Director/Director of Operational Analytics.
Brown Deer Place resident, Lorene Rupp expressed her gratitude for the vaccination. “I can’t wait to be able to see and hug my family,” she said.
Many of the Jaybird Senior Living communities throughout Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois and Kentucky are daily receiving dates to host their vaccine clinics. Additionally, the community employees at Brown Deer Place are providing much encouragement and support to each other and the residents as they form the #FollowMe movement. For more information on how you or your loved one can receive early access to the vaccination at Brown Deer Place, call Community Relations Coordinator, Cassandra Monserud at 319-337-6320.
