Board of Health costs down

At its July meeting, the county Board of Health learned its revenues are 121% of projections, compared to 75% in expenditures, both showing effects from health and safety limits and restrictions in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

As noted by the board last month, expenses were significantly down due to staffing changes throughout the fiscal year.

Currently, there is a $153,000 unspent balance.

There will be a staffing addition for a new environmental health specialist, replacing Jason Taylor who became the new environmental health director, replacing Jennie Wolf who officially is retiring Jan. 26, 2021.

Among Taylor’s duties will be training the new specialist.

As of July 21, county offices were reopened to the public, including Public Heath (based in Federation Bank, downtown Washington).

In permitting re-opening, the supervisors set requirements: Calling for appointments, having a check-in at office entrances, limiting the number of visitors in an office, providing social distancing and wearing of masks.

In the case of the latter, the county facilities will provide one to visitors who do not have one.

Both the supervisors and the health board advise calling the specific office in which one has business, noting that some matters can be resolved with information via telephone.
