Beulah Marie Miller

Beulah Marie Miller was born June 23, 1933, the daughter of John W. and Maude (Swartzendruber) Gingerich. She loved the Lord Jesus and was baptized on Dec. 8, 1946, at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. She graduated from Iowa Mennonite High School in 1951. Beulah was united in marriage to Marvin L. Miller, and their marriage was blessed with four children. They later divorced. 

Beulah enjoyed creating works of art in decorating cakes at the Kalona Bakery.  She also loved to make birthday and wedding cakes for her family and friends.   She was an avid bird watcher, gardener who loved arranging flowers, charismatic singer who loved worshipping through song at church, as well as various women’s quartet groups.  Beulah was gifted by creative, artistic drawing and design talents.  Beulah could often be found piecing together a puzzle, at church activities, or at IMS sporting events. 

     Above all else, Beulah loved her family and spending time with them. Beulah was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church, Mennonite Women, volunteered at the Crowded Closet and enjoyed helping others while volunteering at Pleasantview Home, assisting with their “Meals on Wheels” service.  Beulah was welcomed to her heavenly home on Friday, Oct. 30, 2020, in Iowa City, at the age of 87.

Beulah is survived by three children: James (Kathy) Miller of Kalona, Luann Miller of Kalona and Lyle (Lori) Miller of Wellman; five grandchildren: Michelle (Gentry) Yoder, Kyle (Carleen) Miller, Kylie (Michael) Nettinga, Cody (Courtney) Miller and Kaycee (Will) Spurr; eight great-grandchildren: Cadance, Braelee, Keilyn, Grady, Lenox, Bronx, Maddox and Kendrix;  a sister: Marianna (Alvin J.) Miller of Kalona; a sister-in-law: Dorothy Bender of Kalona; and many nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; a son: Doyle Glen Miller; two brothers: Harold and Daniel Bender; and sister-in-law: Ila Bender.

Celebration of life service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020 at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. Burial will be in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 6, 2020, from 4-7 p.m. at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established for the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church.
