Mosquitos love a good swamp. They thrive there. The humid air, abundance of plants and the water. Oh, the water! Stagnant and perfect for their reproduction, allowing them to multiply by the millions day after day after day. If you’re a mosquito, a swamp is the place to be.

Viruses love a “swamp”, too. They thrive there. Their swamp is human host with a weakened body. A body that doesn’t move well, sleeps poorly and is deficient in the nutrients needed to supercharge the immune system. A human who is stressed, anxious and fearful, which diverts energy from the immune system, ensuring the virus can set up camp and get quite comfortable. If you’re a virus, this is your human.

Humans have a preferred environment, too. They thrive there. Ample amounts of sleep, a healthy, coordinated nervous system, lots of daily physical activity, nutrients from vegetables, fruit, and well-raised animal products and a supportive family and community that provide a safe, friendly, nurturing existence. If you’re a human, these things keep you at your best.

Let’s be clear. The swamp provides for the mosquito. Mosquitos do not cause the swamp. Don’t want mosquitos? Drain the swamp.

Don’t want to be overwhelmed by viruses? Drain your proverbial swamp. If you’re a virus, a robustly healthy human being is going to swiftly kick you out. Move along. No room for you here, thank you very much.

Human beings are powerful creatures — our bodies are smart and designed to be healthy. Our nervous system allows the body to communicate with the brain so that we stay healthy. We live in an unnaturally stressful environment. And we need to work diligently to keep ourselves healthy.

So, what can you do to make your body less vulnerable to the coronavirus and all other infectious agents?

Focus on your five fundamental health practices:

1. Could you move more and better?

2. Do you tune your nervous system with chiropractic care?

3. Could you eat healthier?

4. Could you sleep more and better?

5. Do you recognize and avoid fearful, inflammatory, anxiety-producing news and social media?

Which one of those things would be most important for you? Is today a good day to start?
