The executive committee of the Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale unanimously decided to cancel the 41st annual sale, scheduled for May 29 and 30 at the Johnson County Fairgrounds, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, there are no plans to reschedule.
Despite the cancellation, the executive committee is still hopeful to raise funds for Mennonite Central Committee (MCC), the annual sale’s benefactor.
The Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale goal of raising $65,000 for MCC is approximately half of what the sale profited in 2019.
Due to COVID-19, MCC has seen the cancellation of multiple relief sales and temporary closures of nearly all its thrift stores in North America, losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in annual revenue.
Donations can be mailed to Iowa Mennonite Relief Sale at P.O. Box 234, Kalona, IA 52247 or on the website at www.iamccreliefsale.org.
In addition, help support MCC by participating in a socially distant 5k run or walk, on or near, June 6.
Visit www.iamccreliefsale.org/5k-trail-runwalk.html for more information or to register. Cost to register is $25.
