Acceptance window for M-P school board election documents approaches

Posted

Three seats on the Mid-Prairie Board of Education will be up for election on Nov. 2, 2021, as the terms for President Jeremy Gugel, Gabrielle Frederick and Jodi Meader expire.

Election paperwork must be filed with Business Manager/Board Secretary Jeff Swartzentruber between Monday, Aug. 23 and Thursday, Sept. 16 at 5 p.m. There are no filing fees. Election paperwork (including the election nomination petition form and election affidavit of candidacy) and a candidate guide prepared by the Secretary of State are available at mphawks.org/district/leadership/school-board/elections.

A candidate must be an eligible elector in the school district at the time of the election. An eligible elector meets all of the requirements to register to vote but does not have to be registered to vote. An eligible elector must be a citizen of the United States, a resident of Iowa and at least 18 years old and cannot be a convicted felon (unless voting rights have been restored by the president or governor), be currently judged incompetent to vote by a court or claim the right to vote in any other place.

Candidates need to obtain at least 50 signatures using only the Nomination Petition form linked on the website. The Auditor’s office encourages candidates to obtain more than 50 signatures in case signatures are challenged and subsequently thrown out.

Questions can be submitted to Swartzentruber via email at jswartzentruber@mphawks.org or via phone at 319-646-6093
