4-H’ers get their chicks

Posted

The Washington County Extension Office housed 312 chicks the afternoon of June 17 for the standardized production broiler class.

4-H’ers enrolled in this class purchase and raise a dozen chicks and then bring the three most similar and best in weight to compete at the fair in July.

These chicks were hatched and delivered to 4-H’ers within a 24-hour time frame.

Washington County 4-H’ers, club leaders, volunteers and Extension staff are busy preparing for the Washington County Fair with project preparations, livestock workouts and registration deadlines.

This year, the fairgrounds will not be open to the public and only open for youth exhibitor competitions and exhibitor families.

Best efforts have been made to provide an opportunity for youth exhibitors to showcase their year-long learning, while maintaining safety and health for all involved.
